    Kary Bosma Named Co-Director of Hope-Western Prison Education Program

    After a nationwide search, Kary Bosma has been named co-director of the Hope-Western Prison Education Program operated by Hope College and Western Theological Seminary to provide a Christian liberal arts education to incarcerated men at Muskegon Correctional Facility.

    Retired German Professor Sander de Haan Dies

    Dr. Sander de Haan, who retired from Hope as a professor of German and Dutch in 2018 after nearly 40 years on the faculty, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer鈥檚 disease. He was 78.

    Anchors of Hope: Honoring Hope鈥檚 Eight Newest Faculty Retirees

    The words penned by the Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte when establishing the Pioneer School from which Hope grew are among the college鈥檚 most foundational: education as an 鈥渁nchor of hope鈥 for the future. Through all the decades since, that promise has been shepherded by generations of faculty mentors who have not only been at Hope, but in a real sense have been and are Hope. Across campus 鈥 in the classroom, in the laboratory, on the stage, on the playing field and in countless ways between and beyond 鈥 for a combined 205 years, the eight faculty retirees honored here have embodied and helped realize the vision of transforming tomorrow by shaping young lives today.
